Chris,
That is an "older style" anti-backlash nut made of Turcite from BSA
(ball screws and actuators; San Jose, CA). The two "halves" of the
nut are "castellated"(interlocked) so they can't turn in relation to
each other, and the spring provides the "anti" in anti-backlash.(by
pressing the "two" nuts apart)
