Hi John,
I have just spent the last 3 weeks getting EMC running. I have a P133 with
32mb of ram and I am starting to think it is underpowered. I have to run the
PERIOD parameter 2 to 3 times as long as recommended when using the
steppers. At 32us, my user interface is painfully slow because the real time
portions are hogging the cpu. This really hurts the speed I can run at. My
200step/rev steppers run quite well at 120-200 rpm, but any faster and I
start losing steps. I would consider looking at as fast a processor as you
can find... I have been eyeing up some of the all in one motherboards with a
500mhz Celeron. You can always start slow and if your traverse speeds are
not what you need, then more horsepower is the answer. I am also working on
another algorithm for driving the stepper which may or may not pan out.
