Thanks for the follow up. Now I see where you are/were coming from.
Actually we agree on this. Very early in this thread I bemoaned the
lack of "hands on" training people will get 50 years from now...
Only thing is, it IS happening NOW.

It seems we're in need of some serious "expert system" programming
inserted into our controls(sir, do you realise I can cut this
material 50 percent faster? Would you like me to adjust feeds/speeds
to maximal levels?), or the sound Kaboom! will be a common one in
shops across the land...

P.S.
The high school I went to no longer has an Auto, Metal, or Wood shop!
The "technology" shop (which "replaced" these, I use the word
replaced VERY loosely)is a bunch of computers and a plotter. We're
losing a LOT, and we don't seem to be doing anything about it!
