Before y'all get too far into this;
Remember that the reason "ballbars" have gotten so prevalent for
checking the accuracy/alignment of CNC machines is because:
Laser measurement(over the distances and at the resolutions we're
talking about)is VERY vibration, heat, dust, etc. sensitive. A long
time to set up, and a "bear" to reliably do!
SHORT distances ARE another matter!
