It was a rather tounge in cheek comment - As many have pointed out, even the
smallest amount of vibration will destroy any chance of making a measurement.
Having said that - Renishaw do a neat little laser gadget that sits on the CNC
table. By running the tool though the beam, the exact tool diameter can be
determined by the control - Within the accuracies of the machine). Or it can
be used to detect tool breakages.
Mmm - something else to add to the EMC todo list.
