That's the only applications that I have run into in the real world. Both
usually have variable pitch AND variable pitch diameter.

Pretty sure variable pitch steering gears in some cars use a ball screw or
roller screw with said pitch. Farther from center, the faster the steering
reacts to the driver. Very real applications do exist.

Also thought the screw for some meat grinders had that too.....
