Sorry to hear your filters are working TOO well :-)
I DO agree that the subject lines need to be made more relevant.
The "was" helps us "Human" filters, which don't choke on the
inclusion/exclusion of one "looked for" word.
I like to see (and use) the "was" for the FIRST POST of a "changed"
thread. It let's us know there's been a path change and allows the
original thread to continue, if needed. I do agree, I DON'T like
seeing the "was" repeated indefinately.
