Sorry for the long delay in following this one up...
I finally got around to checking my tooling catalogues and Machinery
Handbook... The carbide insert code that doesn't seem to be listed
anywhere is the letter 'T' as the 4th letter of the insert code (e.g.
CCMT, TCMT). The holder code I can't find is the letter 'N' as the
3rd letter (e.g. STNCR), which appears to be straight-shank with
negative 5 degree side cutting angle.

These codes seem to show up most frequently in the smaller sizes of
positive-rake turning tooling, which is unfortunately just the sort
of thing I am looking for, and I would prefer to understand what I am
buying before I shell out the money, so if anyone can find the
official definitions for these codes (perhaps in a more recent
Machinery's), I would appreciate it...
