OK, this is a good point! I think maybe that machine size is a factor
that is not always put into the 'equation', and it should be. The larger
machines (Bridgeport Series-I and up) may be less amenable to
stepper installations, especially when cost is factored in, compared
to steppers. If you are lucky to snag a set of very large stepper
motors and drivers that can adequately power them to the full torque
rating, at low cost, then you are set. Otherwise, this stuff costs
serious money, and used servos could actually be cheaper!
If you can't afford the big stepper drives, you will suffer really
low top speeds, and the bigger the machine (and workpieces)
the more that suffering will hurt!
