This is definitely NOT true! Over at the local college where I learned CNC
programming, the Z axis on a lathe DOES NOT EXIST! The cutting toll
operates on the Y axis.

I also learned that normally:
A axis rotates about the X axis,
B axis rotates about the Y axis,
C axis rotates about the Z axis,

Pitch is an up and down motion of the nose of a plane (bow of ship) relative
to direction (X) of travel.
Yaw is a right or left motion of the planes nose relative to the direction
of travel.
Roll refers to up or down movement of the wing tips relative to the
centerline of the fusilage.

Speaking of a 3 axis (XYZ) milling machine then, Pitch would be axis B, yaw
would be axis C and roll would be axis A. You can have axis A B & C on a
mill but B & C would not (normally) FUNCTION the same way as pitch and
yaw....even though the B & C axis actually do rotate about the Y & Z axis.

Actual "Pitch" and "Yaw" can be obtained as follows:
Mount a rotary table on the mill table (or lathe cross slide) to provide the
"yaw" axis.
Mount another rotary table in a vertical position on top of the first rotary
table. This will provide the "pitch" axis.

Hope this helps....but, from the responses I've seen, it probably won't.
