If this hasn't all been driven into the ground already -

I've forgotten which, but I think the Tantalum (Ta) electrolytic has
lower tolerance for reverse voltage than the Aluminum (Al) electrolytic.
Ta has lower ESR, which is why you can use 1 uF Ta in place of a 25 uF
Al on the output of a 3-term. regulator.

Ta's are available with higher temperature ratings - so if you're
putting caps in rock drilling rigs or something like that, keep 'em in
mind.

And if you're an audio geek/fanatic (don't take offense - I am), don't
use Ta for audio coupling due to reputation for non-linear distortion on
small audio signals.
