I stand corrected. For FULL automatic control, a lot of the CNC logic
required is dependent on machine design as well as operational
parameters....as you described for various machines.
I have seen and used as machine that is no where near as complicated as
you've described. The spindle moves to the home postion. A mechanical arm
moves into place, the tool is released, it is moved to it's storage
position, the tool storage rack is rotated to the new tool, the new tool is
released to the arm which then moves back to the spindle. the tool is
insertted in the spindle, clamped into place and the arm moves to its home
postion prior to spindle restart.
This system needs...a tool change signal to start the cycle, and signal to
determine which tool to use. I don't know EXACTLY how it IS wired but with
those two signals, the rest of the cycle can be hardwired into the tool
changer! When the cycle is complete, the tool changer can send a signal
back to theCNC program to continue.
I repeat....for the home Shop Machinist or Hobbyist, all those CNC signals
are NOT required.
