No, the development costs are astronomical! It costs somewhere in
the neighborhood of $250,000 to design a single, relatively small
chip, and these numbers may still not include all the support costs
hidden in the departments that do this stuff. You'll never make any
money selling 5 chips to a bunch of experimenters and designers.
Only in those 10,000 and 100,000 piece orders do you really make the
money that counts.
