Ian,

Do you mean air BEARING spindle or air DRIVEN spindle?

If air driven, you may just want to purchase a CHEAP IMPORT air tool
(If you were USA located, I'd say harbor-freight; In the UK, I don't
know) and "tear into it". Less than 20 bucks, lot of education. Try a
die grinder, and you may even be able to use some parts in your new
design...
