Hi Karen:
The best way I found was to get myself a little machine (I started out
with a Flashcut system on a Sherline) and start making parts.
The Sherline cost not that much more than a couple of night school courses,
and I sure learned a lot more than I ever did in school!!
I could play with stuff at my own pace, and making parts drives the lesson
home more completely than a textbook example ever could.
I read lots of stuff in bits and bites, but I found picking the brains of my
co-workers when I had specific problems was really the most effective for
me.
The only downside of this approach is that my education has some huge holes
in it.
Now I want to fill them up, so I'm thinking about a Vocational College
course.
Cheers
Marcus
