Bridgeport Series 1-5

on 2000-12-27 11:46:53 UTC
Some of this group have expressed an interest in the bigger
Bridgeports Series 1- 5.

A few have asked about where to look for these machines.

I would suggest that you start by looking in the newspaper for
machinery auctions.

I was told about an auction last week where FOUR series 1... 5
machines received no bids. They were left in the building to be
removed by the demolition contractor. I went there this morning to
talk to the contractor about the machines. He offered them to me for
NOTHING if I would just get them out of the building. He also offered
several old horozontal mills for the same deal, Just move the stuff.

Sad part of the story is that all 4 Bridgeports had been damaged
beyond repair and some parts already had been trashed.

He did let me pick through tooling and other stuff left behind and
gave me a box or two of tool holders, end mills, a new keyless drill
chuck and 2 hold down tooling sets. One mans trash another man's
treasure. I would guess I got about $2,000 in free stuff today.

The point of this whole thing is, Auctions could be a source of free
machines and tooling. At worst, it is a souorce of expensive stuff
cheap.

This was the first time I have ever gone back to an auction site after
the sale. I am going to try another one in 2 weeks with the intension
of getting there when the demo contractor arrives and look at whats
left before they get in and break it all up.
