I think you must be getting BOSS models confused with
machine models. BOSS controls came in BOSS-3 to Boss-7, I
believe. The Bridgeport machines came in Series-I (based on
the standard manual Bridgeport we all know well) and the Series-II,
which is a 25-50% scaled up machine. BOSS controls can be
connected to either size machine.

Just to make it more confusing, the Series-I bases came with
1J and 2J heads, the 1J having 8 speeds (4 by belt changes, and
the backgear). The 2J has the variable-speed belt drive.

The Series-II has the 4J head, with variable speed. Some multi-spindle
models of Series-II were equipped with several 1J or 2J heads.

The BOSS 3 used steppers with a resolution of .002".
The BOSS 4 and 5 used steppers with a resolution of .001"
The BOSS 6 and 7 used servo motor drive, with a resolution of .0005"

(I think I have this right, but I get confused, too.)
