I've been reading with great interest.
With reguard to smart vs dumb box. I like the idea of a smart box, but
agree you don't want to get locked in to a specific set of software in the
smart box. What I've seen done is us a smart programable box so you can
down load new software/firmware into to box.
Now I can see a probem with this, in that it will cost more, but I don't
know how much more. This is because you're now talking about doing some
things in software instead of progamable logic. This means you will need a
faster PIC/computer.
