No, not quite:

LCCN Library of Congress Catalog Number:
first two digits are the year the book is cataloged (by LC) which is usually the year it is published (and usually copyrighted).
Remaining digits are the serial number ... starting with 1 or 00001 for the first book cataloged that year.

ISBN International Standard Book Number:
part of it denotes publisher; part of it is serial for that publisher. It gets vers specific to indicate binding, large print,
special edition, etc.

eg: The X toolkit cookbook by Paul Kimball was published in 1995, but LC did its cataloging in 1994, hence the number 94-16934. It
was published by Prentice-Hall and its ISBN is 0-13-973132-6. Part of this designation is for Prentice Hall and part is exclusive
to that particular version of the book. The last digit is a check digit, hence sometimes you get the 'X".

Whenever you want to order a specific book at a bookstore, all they need is the ISBN. They don't even deal in LC numbers. Not all
books will have an LC number...the publisher has to send books to LC for them to catalog. Every book publisher has an assigned
company number and each book gets its number from the publisher.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but Dave's librarian wife got carried away!

Note that the reference is 1943. Does anyone have a current reference with the same differences(metric to english Hp)?
