As a machine designer of many years experience I can tell you that a lot of
those out of scale drawings done by hand are due to altering existing
drawings by the simple expedient of changing dimensions and/ or making minor
rvisions. This saves a great deal of time and money when the new parts are
similar enough not to require a complete new drawing for the new part.
