toolchanging

Hi Alvaro:
My VMC has an R8 collet permanently in the spindle and it works
amazingly well.
Z level repeatability is within 0.0002".
This system uses a pneumatic drawbar, though, so the clamping force is
consistent.
Morse tapers are not too good for Z level repeatability.
The taper is so slow, that minor diameter variations lead to big changes in
Z level. (ie pulling the drawbar a bit tighter)
Putting a collet chuck within an endmill holder will work, but it's not very
rigid, and it eats up a lot of your Z height.
Ideally, you want the cutter as close to the lower quill bearing as you can
get it.

Cheers

Marcus
