I am not kidding. When I go to my local Salvation Army or Goodwill thrift
shop, there are mountains of 486 based machines for $5.00 each. I'm not an
expert but most of these were MS-DOS based with window 3.1 on some. There is
an occasional Pentium 1 but these still get sold fairly fast for $75.00. I've
never been there when one showed up and they won't hold stuff for you. Give
it a shot. Commercial outfits upgrade all the time.
