That I know of, all PCs are still capable of running DOS. I know that a
couple of embedded systems I designed originally for slow 286s have
been upgraded to Pentiums because after almost 10 years of constant use,
the old PC died! Thank goodness I used the AT timer and not timing
loops. It also reminded me how much garbage Microsoft has dumped into
what can be something fairly straightforward. The old DOS based programs
ran 20-50 times faster it seemed like, compiles that used to take
several minutes, took place in seconds.
