3D scanning

I don't remember the lightscribe 3D web site being posted in the
discussions of 3D digitizing that we have been having:
http://www.immersion.com/3dtech.html
This is an $8,000.00 laser/video scanning system. That to me would
be a worthy group project to engineer and develop a low cost
approach, rather than the obsolete contact probing that is done with
patent expiring, Renishaw probe switches.
I stumbled across another system which used spots to line up two
video images to produce a mathematical composite 3D image.
http://www.eptron.es/softface3D/
This one is intriguing to me as it is also a noncontact solution and
with the large numbers of list members with IT experience, it seems a
natural to me to come up with some free or low cost software to help
with the creation of lifelike 3D models.
