Were the ends of the ballscrews annealed (made soft for machining)?
If not, you've got an uphill battle, IMO.
Might want to talk to Roland Friestad at Cardinal engineering. No,
he's not in your area, but he has a LOT of "ballscrew end modifying"
experience. And he has developed a method of converting import
Mill/drills without machining the ends of the ballscrews used for
retrofit. Was to be published; Don't know if it has been...
