Alan,

The old controls used all sorts of codes/buttons/operations
for "homing". Nowadays, a G28 will send most controls directly to a
home position. Adding in axis coordinates will result in a homing
move that moves "through" the given points. This is used to clear any
obstructions which may be 'in the way' of a direct path to home
position.

Note that this is NOT necessarily a "homing" operation, just a return
to a previously "homed" place. Most controls have SOME Way of doing
a "homing" operation, and SOME ARE "code-able". Like so much else, it
depends on the control...

Hope this helps.
