Joe, Lee,
Is it possible the two 'lines' are 90 degrees out of phase? That the
two led pairs are just quadrature output? We usually see both
of 'em "reading" the same 'line' of the disk, but there's no reason
why they couldn't be 'reading' from 2 sets of lines, if designed that
way...
I could see that doing this might save/make some space if things are
cramped (which they surely must be!)

P.S. Lee, Were you involved in the single axis pic servo system in
the embedded systems app book (I mentioned earlier)?
