Richard,

Trapezoid belts are old technology. They work, but do not work as
efficiently, or, IMO, as reliably as the HTD "parabolic" style and
the derivatives of the parabolic style (gates has one that people
seem to like, even newer than HTD)

It's similar to the way the sharp thread form of drywall screws has
all but replaced the vee threads of wood screws; the parabola handles
the stresses better than the trapezoid, over a wider range of
variables in tension and speed.

There have been a number of posts on this subject in the archives. A
search of htd should bring 'em up...
