Re: DC versus 3 Phase

I have both my wood lathe and my metal lathe on 3 phase motors and love
it. I have a 220 v single phase inverter that I use to drive both
motors (not at the same time). The unit I have is a ABB inverter and
has served me well for 3-4 years now. Three phase variable frequency
allows a lot of low speed torque. And once you have the inverter it is
simply adding a motor to what ever piece of equipment you wish to have
speed controlled. At this time I am thinking about getting a new/used 3
phase motor to set up as a low/variable speed bench grinder.

Also it is my understanding that unless you use feedback with DC motors
they lack low speed torque.

Bottom line for me... 3 phase prefered over DC

Hope this helps.
