J,
I have an Enco model from several years back. I bougtht it strictly
for the "press brake" part. I had problems with bends of any length
until we stuck it on a bridgeport and re machined the vee of the
moving "blade/ brake". It still needs some "operator finesse" for
longer bends in .063 5052 alum. I can bend 1/8 alum up to about 8
inches bend line...
Someday we'll put it back in a mill and "stress it" so we will mill
a 'crown' into it. SOMEday... (This will help for the long bends,
but for now "finesse" is getting the job(s) done.)
Like any "chinese" import tool, it's a "kit". I'd buy one again. Plan
to "adjust and Get to know" it...
As a shear , it's ok. I added a second lever arm (1/2 x 1-1/2
coldroll works) to eliminate the torque on the slip roll when
shearing /bending. I also added a CNC combo shear/ brake backgage.
Used 1/4-20 threaded rod and size 23 stepper. minimum bend is .437
from the edge. On .063 alum, this makes a 1/2 "flange".
Only copper I've ever used it on (shearing) was fr4 pc bds .063, 1
oz. 2 side. It was fine. Also some VERY thin about .015- .032 copper
sheet. Not so good. To have the press brake work well messes up the
shear, and vise versa. You CAN adjust the shear so it does a good
job, but as I said , I wanted it as a brake, so I "put up with" poor
shearing of thin stock...
Hope this helps.
