dealing with air conditioning more than 25 years as a profession I've seen
many small airconditioning compressors use as a vacuum pump or air
compressor. Make no mistake these compressors will only pump gas. if any
liquid gets into these compressors it will band the small read valves which
will render them useless. These new compressors are very inexpensive for
the most par but if you have on old refrigerator or freezer you can use it.
but did not try to remove the Freon yourself. have a qualified technician
do
it for you. even though it may cost you as much as a new compressor. the
fines can be as much as $10,000 and last a herd anyone who turns someone in
can receive a reward for doing it.

Doug,
You might try a regrigeration compressor! They fail all the time when
used as "poor man's compressors, BECAUSE they NEED liquid for
lubrication... It's easy to change the valves on many so that they
suck, instead of blow :-)
Also, are you using "jars" (like a 2 stage dust collector) on the
input/ output of your oil-less pump(s)? If so, increase their size.
If not, add 'em. While you still won't be able to pump liquid
THROUGH 'em, this should allow you to use them without failing
prematurely. Just a thought: I wonder if the Automatic drains for
compeassor systems would have application here? I don't know enough
about how they work to comment beyond asking the question...
Hope this helps.
