Tim,
I may be wrong, but I think that Mike in the original post was
referring to the newer "laser" style mouse (which does not use rotary
encoders). I too, would like to know how THEY work... We were talking
about them awhile back in the digitiser thread. They appear to have
some sort of motion sensor, as they "light up" when moved VERY
slightly (one report was that .001 movement "initiated" them)
We had optical mice before but they required a "grid" to work. Some
got away with crinkled alum. foil, flattened out.
