Further, what I fail to see is what kind of "chopper-wheel" (or whatever it
is called) would be used? This is where the angular-precision/resolution
would BEGIN, and the "mouse part" (the optical quadrature-reader or
LED/photodiode combo) would only have to have a "matching" resolution, which
it probably would not, as has been said! This is an irrational misconception
of economy, here!
If a "store-bought part" such as an optical encoder seems expensive "in the
book", fiddle with the internal components of such "at the bench" (everyone
has a "breadboard socket", no???), and learn how all that works, before
deciding it might be cheaper to cobble something out of a mouse's anatomy!
You will generally prove to yourself that's EXACTLY why that stuff IS
expensive!!!!!!!!
But I encourage thinking and tinkering! Best info is empirical !!! Jan
