We are getting positional accuracy of 0.02mm [ 0.00078" ]and a
cutting tolerance of 0.1mm [ 0.0039" ]
These are not normal of the shelf rack and pinions but very, very
expensive Swiss ground racks. They run in pairs either side the
gantry with twin servo motors linked by drive shafts to run these so
there is no crabbing.
Upshot of this is the cutting speeds have been increased from a
previous maximun of 3 metres per min [ 120 ipm ] to 10 metres per
min, [400 ipm ]on the thinner stainless and titanium alloys.
