The Sherline rotary table's 40:1 gearing, with a 200 step motor yields
8000 steps per rev. This translates, on a 1-inch diameter
gear, to .000393 inches per step, or, a little more than
2 steps per thou, or 5, half steps per thou. For my clock stuff, I
think that'll be as accurate as the runout, at least on my lathe
