5/16" ?? That's awfully small. Take a look at the maximum speed charts
from Thompson for these screws. They will tend to whip when spinning at
less than 1000 RPM, I suspect, for even relatively short lengths of 18" or
so. They will really bow when loaded to 500 - 1000 Lbs linear force
in compression. I'm using .895" ballscrews on my small Bridgeport
mill, and they are bowing a bit, I think.

Supposedly, HiWin has the best prices, or at least, very competitive.
