To all,
Rigged up a spindle encoder on the mini-lathe today for my Saturday
project, and wrote a short program to sample the speed in rpm. Works
pretty well - found out the lathe was a bit faster than I thought at
top speed. Some RFI gets in there and triggers a bogus pulse every
now and again, but a simple RC low-pass filter took care of that in a
hurry.
Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I'll be adding closed-loop
threading capability to TurboCNC over the next week or two, along
with a few other features that folks have been asking about.
It'll be good to have accurate metric threads for a change without
fiddling with gearing.
