Sven,
I don't know of any low cost machines that are 5 axis. I can tell
you a little of the experiences of a customer of mine. They needed 5
axis motion to machine expensive guitar necks and bodies. Their
choice of machine was a Heinan from Japan. Cost was around $300,000!!
Not only was the machine expensive, a custom CAM post processor that
would correctly handle their cutting requirements cost over $5000.
Apparently, getting their existing high dollar CAM system to generate
cuttter paths for high speed contouring on the periphery of round
nose cutters was not an easy thing to program.
Last I heard they were still not able to fully utilize the machine's
capabilities after having the machine for 2 years.
