If I understand what you are trying to do, my suggestion is to
extract the edges of your "panes" of glass and make the extracted
surfaces a medium grey, with the same or lower transparency level as
the "glass". Go to Solid/Extract surface or type in ExtractSrf in the
command line. At the "Select surfaces to extract" prompt, type in c
(to make copies) and click on the edges of your "glass". Then set the
properties of the new surfaces as above and render.
