Mixing motor types?

Is it possible to use a stepper motor driven dividing head on a servo motor
equipped mill, driven by the same software program?
Most of the uses I currently see for a dividing head are fixed
position uses, and the cost advantages of a stepper drive vs a servo amp
might make one use a stepper on the seldom used axis if it is possible.
