Andrew,
Very comprehensive report. For that you have been
appointed official reporter for the coming N.A.M.E.S.
expo. Would give my toenails to go, but finacial and
other considerations dictate that I stay home and
stew. Will have to depend on you or others for that
favor/favour.
[Thanks, Peter (and Mike, and Alan) I'm honored. But Detroit's a lot
further for me to go than LA, so I don't think I'll be able to make it. It
would be nice if someone wanted to give us a report from there, though. I'm
going to try to get to PRIME next year, though- Oregon's more in my
(non-stationary) orbit.]
BTW how much was that zcorp printer over there. I have
been offered a used FDM for half what the zcorp cost
here, but am worried about the consumables cost. I
think zcorp's advantage is in the much lower
consumables cost, of a order of 4-5 X lower?
Peter
[I think it was $59,000, although I'm not sure if that includes the color
option. As I recall, the Stratasys people were talking about $10/cu.in.
cost for their ABS thread material. Some people recycle the unused powder
from their Z-corp machines to cut costs, but that's frowned upon by the
company. If the used FDM you're talking about uses a generally-available
form of plastic feedstock, I'm sure the price would be a lot less.]
