Joe,
I did just this, but with a MaxNC. First set it up on a 16" Victor
engine lathe, on the cross slide. Last time I replaced the front and
back base bars with custom bars machined to match the dovetails on my
Clausing engine lathe. I just used one tool at a time, but machined some
copper parts and they looked pretty darn good. I'm going to post a
couple pics of both setups to my website, will mention here when I've
done so.
Rigidity isn't the best on the Max slides, cinch them up and they'll
seize. I found some 4 mil teflon coated, fiberglass tape in
McMaster Carr, 7601A31, about $15 for a roll, I'm going to try applying
this to the saddle ways and see if I can't tighten up the gibs a bit
more.
