Newer versions of EMC support steppers. I don't know specifically, but I
suppose it uses a parallel port. Currently, stepper or servo is a compile-time
option. Since some people want to mix steppers with servos, Fred Proctor
is looking into making this an axis by axis parameter in the configuration file.

Well, I really doubt you can do it, unless you won't be sleeping at all
this weekend. I found it to be pretty complicated to get running. There
are Linux issues, hardware issues, configuration & setup file issues,
X windows settings, real time patches, a kernel recompile, etc.
I also had to get servo amps working, and a few other things, but
I think getting Linux, real time and the servo card set up right, and
figuring out the parallel port setup for general machine control, took
me a long time - months.
