Hello Dave,
I did it in December on an automatic Kalamazoo saw.
It was relatively easy:
I made Two holding blocks out of square 1045 that fitted into the old guide beams.
Fed the refrigeration through the centre; Mmade up two sets of clamping blocks
out of A2 where I soldered with silver solder old carbide inserts on the ends. (21 *TMP?)
Surface ground the stuff and engraved some channels for the refrigeration.
The pressure is kept by springs under the outer hollow holding screw.
(by the way I put inside the holding screws the spring and a centring shaft.
Once adjusted the right pressure I cut this shaft flush with the holding screws.
Fool prove for the operator)
For vertical guidance I put the shafts of four broken carbide end mills above the
lateral guide blocks so that they spin
This I did because on the DoAll saws I see that the sitting vertical guide always gets worn and
when it gets sharp it damages the back of the saw blade.
In addition to this I put a spring assembly with defined force under the tightening bolt for the
loose wheel. with a shutoff switch when the blade breaks.
Nice job, they get now guaranteed square cuts and the blade last triple time.
Hope this gives some ideas.
