This was a worthwhile test, sorry it didn't work. Have you looked at your
BIOS setup to be sure that LFB support is disabled?

It's sometimes impossible to identify a motherboard's maker without the
original documentation that comes with it.

I think Tim Goldstein runs an AMD chip, so this would probably be an OK test
if your disk would work.
