Hi:

I don't think feedrate controlled depth is possible. From a feed
perspective, this would not allow ramping of any kind which would
create a smearing between pixels. The best solution would be to have an
output control pin to pulse the laser a number of times equal to a lookup
table of pulses vs color which is calibrated to depth. Could be done by
recoding stepster or any other open code stepper driving software fairly
easily I would think.Just raster step the matrix of the image, get color of
pixel, and pulse an output pin the number of times required...repeat.
