Capacitance

Hello,
I don't want to clog up the list with posts that not many people can
actually use but I thought this would be the best place to ask these sorts
of questions. If you would also prefer to keep to list free of this thread
you can send me any replies directly.
Can someone tell me for formula to work out how much energy is released in a
capacitor's discharge in DC (An AC if it's the same). Am I right to assume
the ampage and voltage discharge would be dependant on inductance,
resistance and impedance (in AC) of the wires after it? Is there way to
calculate the amps / voltage with a perfect zero load over the terminals?
Thanks in advance,
John H.
