George,

Particularly with that fast a system you want to be running in freqmod, not
steppermod. Not sure what you mean by "Am I wrong in believing that the
system would never be linear in the frequency mode.", but it will work just
fine in that mode. You will want to reduce your period setting to take
advantage of the fast system and get better performance. Not sure what
setting you are needing to adjust??

InputScale is the steps per unit
OutputScale is set to the same as InputScale in freqmod or to 1 in
steppermod
You chance the direction by changing the sign of the above values (negative
reverses)
You may have to adjust the P value if you are getting follow errors and play
with the acceleration.

More specifics of what you need to do will be a big help.
