I am slowly making them on the newly acquired (but made in 1984 or so)
CNC mill. I make two or three, then try some other approach to the
program and make some more. Its a real good first project - nice
opportunity to experiment, inexpensive material, butched part is no
big deal.
If the size is off a bit, doesn't matter except as an experiment data
point. A lot of my fence maintenance activity (my other time sink
hobby is riding the horses that live in the back yard) is at the "cut
with torch, weld where metal touches" level of precision. This is a
whole new approach. But the posts and brackets will be easy to walk
up to and inspect, so it is good to make them nice and neat.
I also have some home designed gate hinge parts to make, and some ride
through gate latch parts to make. These are all good first projects
for the new mill - they are all in the direction of making the Mill a
feature of the marriage. <G>
