Electric heaters are an ignition source for ignitable vapors. The
thermostat contacts spark or arc when the open/close.

Don't leave the oil filled electric heaters unattended. They do not have
any secondary safety device. The only on/off device is the thermostat. The
contacts can weld closed, causing runaway operation. The oil overheats and
pressure builds until a spot weld fails. The spot welds rip open, allowing
a mist of hot oil to escape. The oil can be above its autoignition
temperature, or will otherwise find an ignition source. The result is a
very fast growing fire.
